A garden oasis and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River

This Week in the Gardens: Winter Solstice (Dec 21)

Laurel Rimmer, Assistant Director of Wave Hill’s Public Programs, welcomes the arrival of winter in the gardens.

December 21 and winter is officially here! There is plenty to see in the gardens. Here’s a glimpse of what you are missing if you have not visited Wave Hill this week.

Cornus sanguinea ‘Winter Flame’ at the Kerlin overlook and Ilex ‘Sparkleberry” in front of Glyndor House.

Ilex ‘Sunny Foster’ at the Kerlin Overlook, and Geranium macrorrhizum in the Wild Garden.

A lovely trio in the Conservatory: In the foreground on the left, variegated Echium in the Palm House; in the center, an Echeveria collection in the Cactus and Succulent House; and on the right, Vriesea carinata in the Tropical House.

Ah! Wreathus gardanii provides a nice contrast with Cornus alba ‘Westonbirt’ in front of the Perkins Visitor Center.

Happy holidays!
