From The Shop: Staff Picks for the Holidays—The Gift of Light

Jenah Barry, Retail Manager of The Shop at Wave Hill, brings to the position the sensibilities of artist and floral designer.

I love the magic of candlelight at wintertime—candles are always my go-to holiday gift. And with Chanukah, the festival of lights, being celebrated next week, I hope you enjoy this selection of my favorite candle gifts for the season.

• Ceramicist Susan Miller’s handcrafted menorah offers fluid, elegant lines.

• A pack of naturally beautiful beeswax candles will add grace to your menorah. We love our pollinators at Wave Hill!

• Barr-Co’s handcrafted pure soy and vegetable wax candles are made in small batches and beautifully packaged in mason jars and tumblers. Choose between the delicious “original scent”―oatmeal, vanilla and vetiver—or the very seasonal  “fir and grapefruit.” These make excellent gifts paired with matching lotions, bath salts and bubble bath.

• Simpatico’s handsomely packaged candles are directly inspired by nature. “Stem” has a wonderful earthy scent, while “fern” is a delicate, verdant green.

• Artisanal candle manufacturer Paddywax’s mercury glass gifts add shimmer to your table this season. “Solstice” offers notes of white amber, sandalwood and moss.  “Woodland” is fragranced with fresh fir, mistletoe and mint. These are available in candles and as aromatic fragrance diffusers.

• Taking a cue from Wave Hill’s Herb Garden, adjacent to The Shop, we have selected apothecary-jar candles scented with rosemary and thyme, and geranium and basil.

All of these beautiful products will be gracing Wave Hill House’s grand fireplace mantles on Members Night, December 5th. Do stop by to enjoy the warm glow and fragrance!
