From the Field: Chanticleer Scholar Harnek Singh Checks in

Awarded a Chanticleer Scholarship in Professional Development, the first to be awarded to a Wave Hill gardener. Wave Hill horticulturist Harnek Singh has begun a two-week program he designed himself. Read a blog post about the award and the program he designed for his scholarship here. Chanticleer is a 35-acre “pleasure garden” in Wayne, PA. Singh checked in with us mid-week, a few days into the trip.

I have been enjoying my English garden tour, working at Great Dixter for the last two days. Before getting here Monday morning, August 15, I visited a couple of gardens. Notable are Hidcote in the Cotswolds, which is considered a one of its kind arts and craft garden. This garden is an amazing experience of garden rooms with the different character of each garden room. This first shot is of the bird topiaries at Hidcote.

Second major garden visit I have made is to Gravetye Manor just south of London. This William Robinson garden is one of the major influences on modern-day flower gardens. At this garden, plants are grown to perfection, as amply shown in this next shot.

I still have quite a few gardens on my list to visit. After finishing my work assignment at Dixter this week, I will start the next phase of my garden visits. Can’t wait to share my experience with you all!
